What is a GIMC?

The Georgia Intrastate Motor Carrier Registration (GIMC) Program is a state-run system that registers and regulates motor carriers operating only within Georgia. It ensures that these carriers meet safety and insurance standards.

Who is Required to File for a GIMC?

Anyone who operates a commercial vehicle within Georgia and meets certain conditions, like transporting passengers or goods for hire, and equals or exceeds a weight of more than 10,001lbs must file for a GIMC. This includes vehicles that exceed a certain weight, carry hazardous materials, or transport more than eight paying passengers.

Who is exempt from obtaining a GIMC?

Individuals operating private, non-commercial vehicles, including farm vehicles, are exempt from obtaining a GIMC. This exemption also applies to those transporting personal goods or passengers without charging a fee.
