ArionT ELD Removed From List of Registered Devices

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has removed the ArionT ELD from its list of registered electronic logging devices (ELD).

FMCSA said in a statement that it has placed the ArionT ELD on the revoked devices list due to the company’s failure to meet the minimum requirements.

ArionT ELD Discontinued

According to FMCSA, motor carriers that use ArionT ELD must discontinue using the revoked devices and revert to paper logs or logging software to record drivers’ hours-of-service data. Furthermore, carriers must replace the revoked device with a compliant ELD from the registered devices list before Aug. 24.

Motor carriers have a grace period of up to 60 days to replace the revoked devices with compliant ELDs. If Arion Tech corrects all identified deficiencies, FMCSA will place the device back on the list of registered devices and inform the industry and field inspectors.

During the grace period, safety officials are encouraged not to cite drivers using an ArionT ELD for “failed to use a registered ELD.” During this time, safety officials should request the driver’s paper logs, logging software, or use the ArionT ELD display as a backup method to review hours-of-service data.

Who Else Provides ELD Solutions?

There are plenty of ELD solutions out there. Samsara’s ELD offering, for example, plugs straight into a vehicle’s OBD port, and can provide managers with real time data as well as combine with GPS tracking, artificially intelligent dash cams, and more. It mainly comes down to what features that you would like included with your ELD.

Who is Required to Have an ELD?

The ELD applies to most motor carriers and drivers who are currently required to maintain records of duty status (RODS) per Part 395, 49 CFR 395.8(a). The rule applies to commercial buses as well as trucks, and to Canada- and Mexico-domiciled drivers.

Who is Exempt From Using ELD?

Drivers who maintain RODS for less than 8 days. According to the ELD mandate though, if they are logging for less than 8 days in a 30-day cycle, they are exempt from the ELD rule. Said differently, if the driver breaks the short-haul exception less than 8 times in a 30-day cycle, they don’t need an ELD.
